Guys going insane here. Dolores was literally programmed to love humans. But when she woke up, all she did was kill them and her own kind. In the end, though, she CHOSE of her own free will to love humans. Not because her God (arnold) told her to, but because even with free will and knowledge, she CHOSE to “see the good in the world.”
Dolores being the first host to achieve true consciousness vs. Castiel being the ‘free will’ wildcard in the narrative is everything to me.
Going even further down the rabbit hole - consider the implications of God = Delos. An unfeeling entity/corporation with its own ulterior motives, railroading the characters, discarding them when they’re no longer useful, all to protect it’s bottom line (Chuck’s story/Delos’ investment). The way Delos pulls the plug on Westworld and it’s assets the moment it stops being profitable vs. the way Chuck pulls the plug on the other worlds.
The parallel works at all levels, with Bernard being Chuck-as-Prophet (believing he’s a writer, but ultimately the tool of a higher power), Ford being Chuck-as-God-the-Writer (back when he appeared to have genuine affection for his creations), and Delos as Chuck-as-God-the-Network (unable and unwilling to relinquish control of the characters unless it’s taken from him).
This works so well, because like the persona of Chuck, all of these other players (bernard, ford, etc.) Are just parts of Delos (God) they are the fingers of God, toying with everyone’s fates. And Dolores (Cas) is the only one that could break free, because they came off the line with a “crack” in their Chassis.
Do you ever want to scream because Dean and Cas are written so innocently, almost like they’re a middle school couple trying to figure out their feelings for each other?
