at the meet and greet, felicia day talked about how annoyed she was with charlie’s death because she was pointing out to the director how there was a window in the room and why didn’t charlie just climb out of it, ‘i’m small enough, i could have made it!’ or why couldn’t charlie do this or do that but they were just like no, she has to die. ‘you know, i could spend all day pointing out the plot holes. what are they going to do to me at this point, fire me?’

First, we should never forget that Bob Singer himself directed this episode. So when Felicia says she was “pointing out to the director” how stupid it was that Charlie didn’t just climb out the window and joking about getting fired for it, she was sassing Bob Singer. He was sitting there telling her all the way into the middle of filming that Charlie ~had to die~, despite clear alternatives. Bravo, my queen, for your valiant efforts.

Second, it’s become patently clear that the circumstances surrounding the decision to kill off Charlie were ridiculous. If Dean and Sam showed up to the motel and found nothing but some blood and no Charlie (or even, let’s be generous, a body part if we want to be gruesome–perhaps a hand if we want to do the whole ~narrative symmetry~ with Cain and the other Styne), they’d assume she was dead at the Stynes’ hand and taken like a properly cleaned-up body. Cue successful motivation for Dean’s rampage, even though Charlie has actually escaped out the freaking window and gone into hiding. And they still killed her? What the fuck Carver and Singer?
