no you don’t understand it shatters him dean winchester who has to keep going who has to move. on “i used to be able to just shake this stuff off. it might take time but…i always could…i just can’t. i don’t know why.” but not with cas. not with cas.
jack says you can’t go into the empty. jack says it’s too loud in there. jack woke up the empty. jack made it loud, filling the space with angelic screeching, with the screams and wails of demons. no human could stand the noise. no human could survive it.
dean looks like he’s been punched, looks like he might cry. sam’s face is a careful mask as he places a delicate hand on his brother’s shoulder. neither of them wanted to hear these news. jack looks well and truly sorry to have delivered it.
eileen steps forward.
i’ll go, she says. the winchesters exchange looks. a smile grows in the corners of sam’s mouth. eileen pulls on dean’s jacket, the one with the bloody handprint painted on the sleeve. she curls her hand around an angel blade. she gives sam a kiss on the lips, and dean a kiss on the forehead, wrapping a hand around his neck and hauling him down to her height. she ruffles jack’s hair, and he opens up a tear in the universe.
the empty makes a horrible screeching noise, the sound of millions of angels screaming, the sound of demons wailing and hissing. sam and dean fall to their knees, cover their bleeding ears. eileen leaps into the portal.
it closes behind her. dean and sam sit in the bunker library in silence. dean stews in self-loathing–why couldn’t he have rescued cas, why’d he have to risk eileen, what if something happens, they can’t afford for both winchester brothers to wallow in grief, god he’s such a fuck-up–and sam waits with bated breath. he knows eileen will come back. he knows she’ll have cas with her.
- Cas says “if I loved this world that much, it’s only because of you” instead of “I cared about the whole world because of you”
- Dean says “don’t do this TO ME” instead of “Don’t do this Cas”
- Cas says “the one and only thing that I want” instead of “the one thing I want”
- They’ve used the term “transformed” instead of “changed”, which changes “you changed me Dean” into “you’ve transformed me, Dean”
Other than that, it follows the beat and flow of the whole scene. I don’t watch in French at all despite being French, but I’m pleasantly surprised by how good it sounds!
Let me add French twitter also is telling me that Cas says “because you cared about me and I cared about you”

Like it’s not SUPER different than English but it’s definitely different. Biggest distinction is how he’s literally saying “yeah I care about Sam and Jack, but it’s my love for YOU that made me love the world.” Whereas in English it’s more like “I cared about Sam, Jack, and the world, because of you”.
Also in English the “because you cared, I cared” can be interpreted as “because you cared about everything/the world, so did I”.
But in French that’s not at all what he says lol. He says “because you cared about me, and I cared about you”

this scene right here could have very easily been the first confession between dean and castiel. its the pure desperation of dean that shows here, the only reason he might have said it is because somewhere in his mind he thought castiel wasn’t listening, and somewhere else he was praying that castiel heard him.
leaving me to believe that castiel was the one who was “slow at processing emotions” as i believe jackles told us about cas not being able to interpret human emotions that well…
giving an entirely new meaning to the ending, this wasnt deans reciprocation of love, this was castiels reciprocation to deans confession. meaning that their love was completed right before it got taken away. dean winchester is broken apart here not because he doesn’t know how to respond, but because he knows it’s happened and its over.
